Livin' in the USA

This was an intimate show of works on paper featuring three artists I found inspirational. I met Paul McMahon when he worked at Artists Space in the late 70s, and he helped me understand the stakes in contemporary art in a way nobody else did. He was also super funny and smart. Richards Jarden was slightly older, a friend of Eric Fischl from NSCAD. His work took any understanding of patience to the breaking point, painstaking reconstructions of 2-D images in a 3-D wax format only he understood. But they were beautiful, and sadly under-appreciated. I met Jessica Diamond through the viewing program at the Drawing Center, and was immediately impressed by the witty economy of her simple collages, every one on target.
