The photographer Richard Baim was a neighbor of mine in the late 80s. We lived in a fringe of downtown Brooklyn that has since been erased, but which, at that time was home to many small second-hand stores full of junk and occasional treasure. Browsing one day, Richard found a trove of old photographs that clearly documented the life of an immigrant family from Germany who resettled in New York at some point in the 30s. Richard decided to edit the images and make a speculative biography, and asked me to write an accompanying text. The project was shown at Real Art Ways in Hartford in 1990.
